Sukhothai

Sukhothai was the first capital of the Thai kingdom, and its historical park is one of the best-preserved sets of ruins in the country — quieter and more spread out than Ayutthaya. Renting a bicycle to ride between the old temples and reflecting pools is the way to see it, ideally early or late in the day. It sits in north-central Thailand, a common stop for travelers between Bangkok and Chiang Mai; halal food is limited, so it helps to plan meals around the main town.
