Bangkok With Kids 2026: Best Family Attractions by Age
Bangkok is one of the easiest big cities in Asia to visit with children, as long as you plan around two things: the heat and the traffic. Put the outdoor days (Safari World, Dream World) in the morning, spend the hot afternoons in air-conditioned malls and aquariums, and keep your hotel close to a BTS station so short trips stay short.
This guide sorts the city's family attractions by age, by energy level and by how far they are from the centre. Every ticket we name is one we sell and can confirm instantly, so you can book the day as soon as it fits your plan. Where something is free, we say so. Where something is not worth it for small children, we say that too.
Why Bangkok Works for Families
It is loud, hot and busy, and children usually love it anyway. Here is why it is easier than it looks.
❄️ Air-conditioned everything
The big malls around Siam are connected by covered skywalks to the BTS. On a 34 degree afternoon you can move between an aquarium, an indoor playground and lunch without stepping into the sun.
🦁 Big attractions within an hour
A drive-through safari park, a theme park with an indoor snow zone, a riverside Ferris wheel and one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia all sit within about an hour of the centre.
🍜 Food children will eat
Mall food halls have rice, noodles, grilled chicken, fruit and familiar international chains side by side. Picky eaters are rarely stuck, and portions are small enough to share.
👶 Children are welcome
Thai culture is warm towards children. Staff will make space for a pushchair, and on the BTS people often give up a seat to a parent with a small child.
What to Do, by Age
The same attraction can be magic for a six-year-old and a long hot walk for a toddler. Match the day to the youngest child.
| Age | Best picks | Skip or shorten |
|---|---|---|
| Under 4 | SeaLife, MELAND, Lumpini Park, a riverboat ride | Dream World (few rides allowed), long temple walks |
| 4-8 | Safari World, SeaLife, MELAND, Thainosaur Museum, Asiatique Sky | Mahanakhon glass floor (fun, but short attention span) |
| 9-12 | Dream World, Safari World, Mahanakhon Skywalk, Skyflyers, Siam Serpentarium | MELAND (aimed at younger children) |
| Teenagers | Dream World rides, Mahanakhon, Madame Tussauds, Ancient City by bike | Indoor playgrounds |
If you only book two things, book Safari World with a private transfer for a full morning outdoors, and SeaLife Bangkok for a hot afternoon. Between them you cover big animals, sea life, one long day and one easy day, and both work from age three to twelve.
Safari World: The Best Full Day Out
Safari World sits in Khlong Sam Wa on the north-eastern edge of the city, roughly 45-60 minutes by car from Siam depending on traffic. It has two parts. Safari Park is a drive-through open zoo where giraffes, zebras, rhinos and big cats roam around your vehicle. Marine Park is a walk-through park with animal enclosures, a giraffe-feeding terrace and a programme of shows through the day.
Arrive at opening
The park opens in the morning and the animals are most active before the midday heat. Do the drive-through first, then move to Marine Park for the shows, which run under cover.
Feed the giraffes
The raised giraffe terrace is the moment most children remember. Buy the food basket on site and go early before the queue builds.
Choose two or three shows
Trying to see every show turns the afternoon into a march between arenas. Pick two or three by the timetable at the gate and rest in between.
Leave before 4 pm
Leaving a little early beats the evening traffic back into the city, which can double the drive. Check the opening days for your date on the booking page before you choose a day.
How to go: a ticket only suits families who already have a car and driver. The private transfer option is our choice for families: the car waits, the children nap on the way back, and you leave when they are tired, not when the group bus leaves. The shared transfer is the budget choice, with a fixed meeting point and departure time.
Dream World: Rides and Snow in the Tropics
Dream World is Bangkok's classic theme park, in Rangsit to the north of the city, about an hour by road. It is less polished than the big international brands, which also means smaller crowds and shorter queues on most days. Children from about six upwards get the most from it, because many rides have height limits.
❄️ Snow Town
For children from hot countries this is often the highlight of the whole trip. Check whether your ticket includes Snow Town, because some options do not.
🎠 Fantasy and family rides
Enough to fill a morning for younger children while older siblings do the coasters with a parent.
🎢 Thrill rides
Bring a change of clothes if your children plan on the water rides. You will get soaked.
🌳 Dream Garden
A good place to sit while the children queue for another ride.
The round-trip shared transfer meets at a central mall and drives you there and back, which is the simplest option if you do not have a car. With very young children only, we would choose Safari World or SeaLife over Dream World.
Siam: The Air-Conditioned Half Days
Everything below sits in or next to Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery, at BTS Siam. These are your hot afternoons and rainy days.
🐠 SeaLife Bangkok
📍 Siam Paragon, lower floorsTens of thousands of animals, a walk-through underwater tunnel, penguins and a glass-bottom boat. Pushchair friendly and fully air-conditioned. Our default answer to "what do we do this afternoon?".
🧸 MELAND
📍 Siam ParagonAn indoor play park with a role-play town where children run a shop or a car wash, ball pools, slides, a train ride and climbing challenges. Parents sit while the children burn off energy.
🎭 Madame Tussauds
📍 Siam Discovery, next doorWax figures of film stars, athletes and singers. Older children and teenagers enjoy the photos. Cheapest bought as a bundle with SeaLife.
🛍️ The malls themselves
📍 Siam Paragon, Siam Center, CentralWorldLarge food halls, family toilets and nursing rooms. Plan lunch here between activities instead of searching for a restaurant outside.
Asiatique: An Easy Riverside Evening
Asiatique The Riverfront is a night market and entertainment area on the Chao Phraya River. It is at its best from late afternoon, when the heat drops and the lights come on. A free shuttle boat runs from Sathorn Pier, next to BTS Saphan Taksin, which children usually enjoy as much as the destination.
Asiatique Sky
A large riverside Ferris wheel in enclosed, air-conditioned cabins. Ride it around sunset for the river view. Works for all ages, including babies in arms.
Thainosaur Museum
An exhibition of dinosaurs found in Thailand, opened in 2025, with full skeletons and life-size models. A short, cheap, indoor hour that dinosaur fans aged 4-10 love.
Skyflyers
A giant riverside swing ride themed on a Thai pterosaur. For braver children and teenagers; check the height and age limits before you buy.
Eat dinner at the market, ride the wheel, and take the shuttle boat back. It is a gentle evening that ends with tired, happy children.
Views, Snakes and Small Temples
Shorter outings for children aged about seven and up.
🏙️ King Power Mahanakhon Skywalk
📍 Silom, BTS Chong NonsiA fast video lift, an indoor observatory and a glass tray you can stand on above the city. Go at sunset on a clear day; skip it on a hazy one.
🐍 Siam Serpentarium
📍 Near Pathum WanOver 70 kinds of snakes, interactive displays and a theatre show. Children who like animals and a little fear will rate it highly.
🏯 Ancient City (Muang Boran)
📍 Samut Prakan, about 1 hour southA huge open-air park of scaled-down Thai temples and palaces. Rent bicycles or a golf cart; walking it in the heat is too much for small children.
🚌 Hop-on hop-off bus
📍 Old city and river loopsSitting on the top deck of a double-decker is an attraction in itself for small children, and it gets you past the Grand Palace area without a long walk.
Free and Nearly Free
Lumpini Park
Bangkok's central park, free to enter, with a lake, paddle boats, playgrounds and large monitor lizards that wander the lawns. Children watch them for an hour. Go early morning or after 4 pm.
Benjakitti Forest Park
Raised wooden walkways over wetlands, close to Sukhumvit. Flat, shaded in parts, and good for scooters and pushchairs.
The river ferry
The Chao Phraya Express boats cost very little and give children a real boat ride past temples and the Grand Palace. Hold small hands at the pier; boarding is quick.
Wat Pho in one hour
The giant reclining Buddha is the one temple most children find impressive. Go early, see the Buddha and the courtyard, and leave before the heat. Shoulders and knees covered for everyone.
A Sample 4-Day Bangkok Family Plan
Day 1: Arrive and stay close
Land, check in, sleep. In the afternoon, SeaLife and lunch in the Siam Paragon food hall. Early night.
Day 2: Safari World
Private transfer at opening time, safari drive, giraffe feeding, two shows, back by late afternoon. Pool at the hotel.
Day 3: Slow morning, riverside evening
Lumpini Park or MELAND in the morning, rest in the afternoon, then the shuttle boat to Asiatique for the Ferris wheel, Thainosaur and dinner.
Day 4: Dream World or the old city
Ages 6 and up: Dream World with Snow Town. Younger children: the river ferry to Wat Pho in the early morning and the hop-on bus.
Safari World and Dream World are each a full day, including the drive. Pair them with nothing more than a pool and dinner. The families who enjoy Bangkok most leave space in the plan.
Getting Around With Children
🚆 BTS and MRT
Fast and cool. Children under 90 cm ride the BTS free. Not every exit has a lift, so a light folding pushchair beats a big one.
🚗 Private car with driver
The car waits while you visit. Request a child seat when booking; since 2022 Thai law requires one for children under six.
🚕 Taxis and ride apps
Easy and cheap, but most cars have no child seat. Choose a bigger car class in the app if you have a pushchair.
⛴️ Boats
A ride and a sightseeing trip in one. Children wear life jackets on tourist boats; ask if you do not see them.
For the day trips, a private car with a driver is usually simpler than three separate taxis, and it costs less than it sounds when split across a family.
Heat, Rain and Health
| Months | Weather | Plan the day as |
|---|---|---|
| November - February | The coolest and driest, still around 30 degrees by day | Outdoor mornings and evenings both work |
| March - May | Hot, April is the peak | Outdoors before 11 am only, malls and pool after |
| June - October | Rainy season, usually heavy afternoon showers | Outdoor mornings, indoor afternoons, always carry a small umbrella |
- Water bottles in every bag; children dehydrate faster than adults in this heat.
- Sunscreen, hats and a light long-sleeved top for open-air parks.
- Mosquito repellent for parks and evenings by the river.
- Pharmacies such as Boots and Watsons are in every mall; pharmacists usually speak English.
- Bangkok's private hospitals have children's departments and English-speaking staff if you need a doctor.
- Travel insurance that covers the children, with the policy number saved on your phone.
Where to Stay With Kids
Stay near BTS Siam, Chidlom or Ploenchit. You can walk to SeaLife, MELAND and three malls, take the BTS anywhere else, and come back to the hotel for an afternoon nap without a long ride. Look for a hotel with a real pool, a family room or connecting rooms, and a breakfast that covers the children.
Two hotels in this area that families often compare are below. Check your dates, the room type and whether it accepts your whole group; our family room guide explains what to look for. For every area, see the Bangkok hotel guide.

Bangkok With Kids: Questions
Is Bangkok safe for children?
Yes, for the normal precautions of any big city: hold hands near traffic and piers, keep an eye on children in crowded markets, and choose official taxis or apps.
Safari World or Dream World if we only have one day?
Safari World for children under eight and animal lovers. Dream World for children eight and up who want rides and snow.
Can we do Safari World by public transport?
It is possible but slow and hot. With children, take a private transfer or a shared transfer from a central meeting point.
What do we do when it rains?
Go to Siam: SeaLife, MELAND, Madame Tussauds and the malls are all indoors and connected to the BTS.
How many days do we need?
Four days covers the best of it with one rest morning. Five lets you add Dream World or the Ancient City without rushing.
Are attractions open every day?
Most are, but some parks close on certain weekdays or change hours on holidays. Check the date on the booking page before you plan the day around it.
