A two-week journey that draws together Thailand's north and south. It begins amid the electrifying energy of Bangkok, exploring the city the way locals do — by skytrain, canal boat, tuk-tuk and longtail. It heads north to the once-infamous Golden Triangle, where the Mekong meets the Ruak and elephants roam an Anantara estate, then winds through Lanna country to old Chiang Mai. Finally it drops south to the Andaman Sea, with a private kayak through the karst islands of Phang Nga Bay and the Sino-Portuguese streets of Phuket Old Town. Every day is privately hosted, every transfer arranged, and every night spent in a hand-picked boutique house: Riva Surya, Anantara Golden Triangle, Tamarind Village and The Slate.

Day1

Arrival in Bangkok

On arrival in Bangkok, a Fast Track service expedites you through the airport. An airport representative meets you at the gate with a welcome signboard and accompanies you through immigration and baggage claim to your Bangkok host, who transfers you to Riva Surya by private van. In the evening, an optional 'One Night in Bangkok' walk takes in the city at magic hour — riverside neighbourhoods, street food and the narrow lanes of Na Na near Chinatown, ending on a rooftop overlooking the illuminated Grand Palace and Wat Arun.

Riva Surya, Bangkok
Day2

Bangkok by Every Local Way

An outstanding introduction to frenetic Bangkok. Using a variety of local transport — skytrains, canal boats, tuk-tuks, longtail river boats and a little walking — you avoid the traffic and experience the city the way locals do. Along the way you take in the Erawan Shrine and the Central Business District, the Golden Mount at Wat Saket, the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, the Grand Palace and the canals of Thonburi.

Riva Surya, Bangkok
Day3

Fly to Chiang Rai — the Golden Triangle

At your designated time, your host escorts you to the airport by private vehicle for the flight north. On arrival in Chiang Rai you are met by your driver from the Anantara Golden Triangle Resort and transferred by private vehicle to the resort, a luxury lodge perched above the confluence of the Mekong and Ruak rivers at the gateway to Indochina.

Anantara Golden Triangle Resort
Day4

Inclusive Anantara Experiences

A day to enjoy the experiences included with your stay (one activity per person for each night). Choose from the resort's celebrated elephant encounters — the signature 'Walking with Giants' among them — a boat trip across the river to the Lao market, or the nearby Hall of Opium museum.

Anantara Golden Triangle Resort
Day5

A Night in the Jungle Bubble

Spend an unforgettable night observing Thailand's majestic elephants in their natural habitat from your own fully furnished, transparent Jungle Bubble. Perched on a wooden deck above the forest, the bubble offers uninterrupted views of the gentle giants and the starlit sky above.

Day6

An Extraordinary Road Trip to Chiang Mai

Transfer by van to Chiang Mai along the scenic Fang route. The highlight is an extended stop in a Lahu hill-tribe village along the Thai–Myanmar border for a meal traditionally prepared with locally sourced natural ingredients. Time permitting, you also visit Wat Tha Thon for sweeping valley views.

Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai
Day7

Chiang Mai — Life & Legends

A day exploring the key historical sites that tell the story of Chiang Mai's colourful past, while getting to know local life, customs and the celebrated cuisine of northern Thailand.

Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai
Day8

Thai Cooking Class

In Thailand, everyone learns to cook at home and family recipes pass from one generation to the next. At Chiang Mai's 'Cooking at Home' school, run by two passionate Thai cooks, you join a hands-on class to learn the ingredients and steps behind some of your favourite Thai dishes.

Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai
Day9

Fly to Phuket — the Andaman

Your host escorts you to the airport by private vehicle for the flight south. On arrival in Phuket, a representative of The Slate greets you in the Arrivals Hall and transfers you to the resort — a striking concept retreat themed around old Phuket's tin-mining heritage, set along the island's sheltered northern shore beside Nai Yang beach.

The Slate, Phuket
Day10

A Day at Leisure

A free day to enjoy the beach and the resort's facilities — the designed Coqoon Spa, the pools and Nai Yang's quiet golden sand just across the road at the Beach Club.

Day11

Hong by Starlight

A full day kayaking through the beautiful karst islands of Phang Nga Bay, hosted by the highly reputable John Gray's Sea Canoe team. After a healthy lunch on the escort boat and a safety briefing, your guide leads you through the sea caves, blue lagoons and mangrove forests of Koh Panak and Koh Hong. Dinner is served at sunset, and as night falls you paddle into caves lit by phosphorescent plankton and release a krathong onto the still waters before returning to Phuket.

The Slate, Phuket
Day12

Phuket Old Town

There is more to Phuket than sun, sand and sea. Today you explore the rich history of Phuket Town — the centre of the 19th-century tin trade that drew Hokkien and Hakka Chinese traders alongside merchants from Malaysia, India and Europe. Wander the restored Sino-Portuguese shophouses, manor houses, art galleries and coffee shops, then finish with an outstanding lunch at an authentic southern Thai restaurant.

The Slate, Phuket
